Substitute Gym Teacher Abuse 6 Girls On First Day
Substitute gym teacher on Friday was found guilty of groping six seventh-graders in one day Oct. 2015.
Norman Scott now a retired teacher of Portland Oregon was only a one day substitute at the gym in Gardiner Middle School. That one day was enough for Scott to grope breasts, touch backsides, hips, hairs and upper inner thighs of nothing less than six young girls.
It was the first and only day he substituted at that school, KATU-TV reported.
In an email to the community in October 2015 after the incident, Gardiner’s principal stated that the substitute acted inappropriately. He noted that the substitute teacher has been removed. It also said Oregon City police responded to the situation.
Parents were frightened.
Attorney Jacob Houze maintained that his client was falsely accused. In his statement he accused the police of failing to interview other students and staff who where in the gym same day. "We have each accuser's individual allegations, which are rife with contradiction, dramatic inconsistencies and none of them enjoy a shred of corroboration," Houze said.
Clackamas County Circuit Judge Jeffrey Jones found Norman Scott rebuffed the possibility of accidental touching. Jones was strongly convinced that the girls’ testimonies are detailed enough and compelling.
Norman would not accept a jury trial and equally within his rights refused to give his own testimony during the two weeks long trial. Over twenty witnesses were called in to give evidence in the case. They include the school principal and his vice, some parents and the six students involved.
Police confirmed the incident happened in October 2015 and that the teacher Norman Scott was charged with altogether 22 counts, 18 of harassment and 4 of third degree sex abuse. He also had no previous criminal record.
Scott was found guilty of third degree sexual abuse and harassment. The Court put his sentencing on Nov. 16. He was indicted back in June 2016. Police arrested him July 2016 and has out of jail same day after posting a bail of $100,000.
Some girls reported that Scott held them too close, He kept his hands on their hips and equally stared at their breasts Deputy District Attorney Scott Healy said.
One student said she was refused to got to the bathroom when she asked. That Scott instead moved his hands all over her body from her hair to her back, arms and grabbed her bottom, Healy continued.
while a third girl was assisting to take attendance, Scott played his hands on her hair and shoulder. He mentioned to her that she was pretty. The girl uncomfortable with these advances withdrew to another location. The girl said Scott followed her.
The 66 year old was a teacher in health and physical education in Clackamas County and Portland Public Schools for 36 years. He retired from Grant High School Portland in 2012. He worked regularly as a substitute teacher three years after retirement in the Lake Oswego, North Clackamas and Oregon City school districts. Scott’s current license qualifies him to to teach from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade up to 2020.
An earlier incident linked to Norman was in 2009 when a Grant High School student uploaded a four-minute video on YouTube of Scott wearing a condom on his head while teaching sex education class for 10th-grade students. He was also wore a pair of red underwear on his pants with a hole in the middle.
