Immigration Protesters Rammed By Motorist At Brea, South California

Brea, Cal. |  Demonstrators at  a rally in Brea Southern California where rammed by a motorist after what seems like an altercation close to Rep. Ed Royce’s office Thursday afternoon, Oct. 26.


Brea police Chief confirmed that no one was treated for injuries sustained. Some  protesters reported minor injuries.




The 56-year old motorists was forced to a stop by police and quickly arrested. Mr. Daniel Wenzek was identified by police as a Brea resident.




Protesters, numbering about 200, rallied close to Royce’s office around 1 p.m. They were supporters of DACA recipients. The rally was held to get GOP Rep. Ed to support existing temporary immigration status. The group includes the Local 11 members and members of SEIU, a union for hotel, security officers and janitors.

David Huerta, President of SEIU, said four of their members and two staff were taken for observation at a local hospital.


“Today’s peaceful demonstration … was permitted and held in cooperation with the Brea Police Department,” Huerta said in a statement. “We are grateful for the bravery of officers who stopped the driver before more violence was committed, and who took the perpetrator into custody.”

The group said they would be back at Rep. Royce’s office tomorrow to continue their push to get status for their members who are affected by trump’s administration immigration policy.


Congress man Ed was not in his office when this incident occurred.






Police Chief, Lt. Kelly Carpenter, disclosed that they protest was largely over and that some protesters were already heading for their bus when the motorist drove his vehicle, a Toyota Avalon, at slow speed into a small group that were protesting at Birch Street and Brea Boulevard intersection.


“We asked them to clear, and they did,” the lieutenant said.


“The protest was almost over, and they were walking back when this car came to the crowd,” Carpenter added.

The lady that jumped on the hood of the vehicle in the video was identified as Claudia Aguilera, 46, of Los Angeles. She was grateful that Wenzek at last stopped after been ferried for about 7 seconds.


“My only thought is that I just want him to stop,” Aguilera said by phone to Latimes. “I’m like, if I just jump on the car, he’s going to stop. He did stop, thank God, because if he didn’t stop, he would [have] run over a lot of people that [were] crossing the street. It was so quick.”


Investigators ask the public to provide videos of the incident to enable them reach conclusions. Mr. Wenzek was released same day as police try to figure out his motive.
